Roads & Stormwater
 

The purpose of this Division is to maintain and upgrade the roads and storm-water system as well as the paved areas within the road reserve in the City of Potchefstroom.  This incorporates the maintenance of gravel and surfaced roads, storm-water systems, sidewalks, bridges, culverts and other minor ancillary roads works.  It is also responsible for maintaining railway sidings.

The functions of this division includes:

  • Tarred roads and gravel roads
  • Sidewalks
  • Storm-water systems
  • Bridges and rail sidings
  • The planning and design of new council engineering projects
  • The administration and supervision of new civil engineering projects.

    Your complaint will be added to a list that is collected daily by the superintendent.  Work is then prioritised and handed to the teams responsible for road patching.

  2. My driveway between the street and property is in a bad condition.  Will the municipality repair this?

    The municipality is responsible for all declared public roadways within the urban areas.  Report the problem at the above-mentioned telephone number.

  1. What does the municpality do to prevent flooding?

    The municipality provides drainage systems within the road reserve.  However, it should be remembered that a storm-water system can only cope with a certain amount of water.  Therefore it is our responsibility to keep the storm-water system clean.

  1. Storm-water from my neighbour's property runs through the fence on to my property.  What should I do?

    The storm-water problem is between you and your neighbour.  According to national building regulations, a property owner must accept storm-water from an adjoining property as long as the water is in sheet and not concentrated flow.

 

The purpose of this division is to provide a service in rural areas where main sewerage lines is not available in the Potchefstroom at affordable price.

  • To empty problematic main sewers
  • To empty a sewer hole at rural areas.
