Who is responsible for installing water metres?
The Department Infrastructure is responsible for the installation and maintenance of water mains, connections and metres.
- How can I check that my metre is accurate?
Should you be dissatisfied with the metre readings, you can request to have your metre tested (fill in an application form available from the Department Finance: ENQUIRIES: Water & Lights). You will have to pay a deposit that will be refunded if the metre is found to be faulty and the account will be credited if necessary.
- How often is my metre read?
Monthly.

- How much does water cost?
The current domestic water tariff is:
Basic charge: R21.30 for residential 1 erven
Water supply charge: R2.55 for each kl over 10kl consumed per month
- How much free basic water do I receive, if any?
The first 10kl or less per month.
- What must I do to report a damaged water metre box?
You must report it by telephoning the above-mentioned number. If it is deemed damaged, the municipality will replace it.
- How often is our water tested?
Elementary tests are done daily on the purification plants and comprehensive tests are done weekly in the laboratory.
