The office of the Potchefstroom City Council Executive Mayor, Cllr. Maphetle Maphetle, welcomes the sentencing of Mr. Piet Rantsie.

Mr. Piet Rantsie of SANCO from Kanana Orkney was today (Thursday, July 19, 2007) found guilty and sentenced for soliciting funds from several business people in Potchefstroom under the false pretence of collecting money on behalf of the Executive Mayor’s office.

Mr. Rantsie was arrested on 05 January 2007 and sentenced today at the Potchefstroom magistrate court for 18 Months imprisonment or R3000 fine.

As the office of the Executive Mayor, we would like to call on business people in the city and the general public to be on the alert of such individuals. We urge the public to ensure that they contact our office at (018) 299 5245 when people ask them money claiming to be from the office of the Executive Mayor or the City Council.
